I’ll write up a more descriptive lesson-plan later, but I just had my class watch Black Robe, an amazing film about a Jesuit missionary in the the early 17th century traveling to a Huron mission in the interior – more here, Black Robe IMBD
Before watching the film, I had my students read portions of Father LeJenue’s description of a meeting between Huron and Montaignais Indians and the Jesuit missionairies and Gov. Champlain. I’ve linked the reading below and I asked my students to compare and contrast the primary sources with the fictionalized retelling.
Let me know what you think!
